28-08-2024

We are pleased to announce that Professor Wang Donggen, Chair Professor in the Department of Geography at the Academy of Geography, Sociology, and International Studies (GSIS), has recently secured a funding of 450,000 RMB from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) for his research project titled " The impacts of urban expansion on extreme commuting."

This project seeks to answer the following research questions: Does urban expansion contribute to an increase in extreme commuting? If so, who are these commuters, and where do they live and work?

NSFC was established in 1986 and has been under the administration of the Ministry of Science and Technology since 2018. Its funding system emphasises the efficient allocation of scientific resources, the development of talent, and the creation of a supportive environment for innovation.

Congratulations to Prof. Wang on this recognition. We look forward to the significant contributions his research will make to urban geography, transportation studies, and related fields.
