Everyday Health, a well-known American online media platform focused on health-related news and information, published a news article on October 10, 2025, sharing recent findings on the benefits of short bouts of exercise (also called “exercise snacks” in the article). According to recent research published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine and the Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports, these brief periods of exercise performed throughout the day can have positive effects on cardiometabolic and muscular fitness.
Prof. Tam Tsz King Bjorn, Assistant Professor at the Academy of Wellness and Human Development, was invited to share his insights on this topic, together with two other experts in the field. Prof. Tam noted that occasional short exercises throughout the day could be particularly beneficial for people who are not very active. However, he also reminded us that while “exercise snacks” cannot replace traditional workouts, they can be a first step toward a healthier lifestyle. Additionally, he recommended taking exercise breaks after every 45 minutes to 1 hour of sitting.
