The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) collaborated with the Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice at The University of Chicago to co-host the “International Research Workshop on Work, Family, and Caregiving in a Global Context” from April 24 to 25, 2025. This workshop gathered international and local scholars from various fields in arts and social sciences to discuss the evolving trends in work, family, and caregiving across diverse regions.
The International Research Workshop aimed to bring together scholars and practitioners to explore the complex interactions between labor conditions, employment stability, and caregiving responsibilities. The first day featured a keynote address by Prof. Julia Shu-Huah Wang from National Taiwan University, who provided a global analysis of income transfer policies for families with children. Subsequent panels presented discussions on country-specific safety net programs, employment conditions, family demographics, and the intersection of work, family, and caregiving needs. The second day focused on the employment conditions of older workers in Hong Kong.
Dr. Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning), delivered the opening speech at the workshop. He emphasized, “It is an honour that local and global universities have collaborated through HKBU, where we are looking at more future collaborations.”
The workshop commenced on April 24, 2025, and attracted nearly a hundred public registrations who participated in the opening ceremony.
