The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) collaborated with five top-tier overseas universities to host a “Training and Sharing Workshop for Academic Career Paths” on this Friday. With over a hundred registrations received, the online workshop was globally synchronized and tailored for PhD students and postdoctoral fellows from around the world.
The International Doctoral Symposium, founded by the HKBU Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences in collaboration with The University of Chicago, The University of Michigan, Seoul National University, The University of British Columbia, and Nanyang Technological University, is dedicated to bringing together PhD students from high-ranking universities each year. The symposium aims to foster synergy and generate innovative research ideas to address emerging global issues. This year, we introduced two new workshops on career training and sharing to help PhD graduates navigate the competitive job market in academia.
Prof. Aimee Hilado from The University of Chicago and Prof. Yoonsun Han from Seoul National University shared their academic journeys toward professorial positions globally. Despite coming from diverse academic backgrounds and institutions, ranging from arts to social sciences, the doctoral students demonstrated enthusiasm in engaging interactively with the speakers about the job market and academic career preparation.
