Course Briefing: GCAP3165 - Global Workshop on Diversity, Equality, and Social Justice: Community Engagement and Policy Innovation Showcase

13-10-2025

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) is pleased to announce a course briefing session for GCAP3165, a thought-provoking and transdisciplinary course designed to explore the complexities of diversity, inequality, and social justice in a global context, engage in community engagement and participate in policy recommendations.

Participants will have the opportunity to visit the University of British Columbia School of Social Work in Canada and the University of Chicago Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice in the United States. Through these immersive experiences, students will examine key concepts, theories, and issues related to social diversity in North America. Drawing on a wide range of social science research, the course elevates students to think structurally and critically about the roots of social injustice and to apply these insights to their own disciplines and contexts.

By the end of the course, students will assess the effectiveness of Western policy models and explore their adaptability to the Greater Bay Area (GBA). They will incorporate global best practices into localized policy recommendations for China, the GBA, or Hong Kong. These recommendations will be showcased in a Policy Exhibition at HKBU.

The upcoming briefing session will provide an overview of course requirements, a tentative class schedule, key reminders, and a Q&A session to address student inquiries. Whether you're curious about the course content or considering enrollment, this is a valuable opportunity to engage directly with the course coordinator.
