Congratulations to Prof. Ge Liang for Winning the First Prize at the 10th Dream of the Red Chamber Award

Warmest congratulations to Prof. Ge Liang, our faculty member in the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at the Academy of Chinese, History, Religion, and Philosophy (CHRP). His novel, Food is Heaven (《燕食记》), has been honoured with the first prize at the 10th Dream of the Red Chamber Award for The World’s Distinguished Novel in Chinese.
Prof. Ge is an internationally acclaimed author, with his works translated into English, French, Italian, Russian, Japanese, and Korean. His award‐winning novel centres on the lives of two esteemed chefs—a master and his apprentice—whose narratives illuminate the culinary landscapes of Guangzhou and Hong Kong over the past century, capturing the transformative periods in Guangdong and Hong Kong since the Xinhai Revolution through their culinary experiences.
The Award’s judging panel commended the novel for its skillfully developed characters, vivid and considerable details, and snapshots of everyday life that engage readers.
The Dream of the Red Chamber Award, organized biennially by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at HKBU, aims to encourage the publication of outstanding Chinese novels. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place this November.
