2023 IWW Literary Festival: Turbulence · Tranquility · Transdisciplinary Writing


The International Writers’ Workshop (IWW) at Hong Kong Baptist University is excited to host our annual Literary Festival from 13-16 March 2023 showcasing our 2023 Writers-in-Residence and international writers attending their Post-Programme Visit. With the theme of “Turbulence · Tranquility · Transdisciplinary Writing,” this year’s festival explores our turbulent times, tranquil moments, and the nature of transdisciplinary writing. From artificial intelligence to the diverse disciplines that inform a writer’s work, the festival invites audience members to reflect on the challenges and pleasures of the literary arts. IWW’s 2023 Writers-in-Residence, Ms. Yan Ge and Ms. Violet Kupersmith, engage ChatGPT to consider the relationship between human creativity and artificial intelligence, especially in relation to literary writing.


Fiction Writing Workshop: How to Write an Emotionally Engaging Story

Time: 11:00 – 13:00

Instructor: Ms. Marta Dzido (Polish fiction writer & filmmaker)

Join Polish novelist and filmmaker Marta Dzido for a lively fiction writing workshop on how to write an emotionally engaging story. Winner of the European Union Prize for Literature, Ms. Dzido will lead a 2-hour workshop to teach participants how to craft stories that evoke emotions in readers. You will learn various storytelling techniques, including different types of narrative structures, points of view, pacing, and the geometry of narration. You will consider some examples and have a chance to put these techniques into action during the workshop. Registration required.

Yan Ge in Conversation: Writing in Chinese and English
